"Some people are saying, wouldn’t it be amazing that in the same year that the first African-American president took office in the U.S., we also elected the first gay and/or bisexual ‘American Idol’,” said Robert Thompson, professor of popular culture at Syracuse University in New York.

Prince. Clay Aiken. Ellen Degeneres. T.R. Knight. Have we never had a gay entertainer before?

Robert Thompson made this reference is regards to the possibility of Adam Lambert becoming the first gay American Idol winner. I am a bit ashamed of this professor who put our President in the same category as a gay singer. Although it was pivotal for our nation to elect its first African American President was it equally as great that our country might vote a gay American Idol? I think not.
